Finally have to call it...scrapping my Discovery
I realized after tearing this thing apart how much I wanted to really fix it up, but after realizing I would definitely need a new block and just how much the cost of a good new engine would be I have to part ways.
I got some much needed help a while ago when I was tearing down the engine and figuring out what I was dealing with. (https://landroverforums.com/forum/di...ow-what-69375/)
After doing lots of research I decided I wouldn't just but another engine block and put it in so it would run...I needed to fix the issue, but slowly realized this would cost at least $5000
So now I've had to make the decision to scrap it/part it out/cut my losses
I'm looking for some suggestions on m next move.
After all the money I suck into this it seems a cracked block was the root cause, so I would think a lot of the other components are still good...I really dont want to waste still good parts
just for a re-cap here's the last leg of my journey
The breakdown...
...and the final stretch

- part it out locally
- scrap it
- part it out on ebay

Be prepared to make a huge mess when you part it out. You will have parts everywhere, then you have to take photos, list them for sale and ship them out. It sounds easy, but there is a lot of work involved.
Why not buy another earlier disco with a good 4.0 and swap the motor, then junk it. Some can be found for 2K, then you could take whatever extra parts you want and get rid of it.
Good luck.

Hey on the positive side at least you got to see that tow truck driver's killer mullet! That thing rocks!
By the way, you could get that thing going again for much less than $5k. Stick your crank, rods and pistons in a decent 4.0 and you'll have a 4.6. Do the cam at the same time and you'd probably end up with a decent running truck for a few years.
