Default First "Road Trip"

I took my first "road trip" in my '01 Disco yesterday, and I am pleased. I think. I say road trip in parenthesis, because it was only about 450 miles there and back which, in my mind at least, doesn't really qualify as a real road trip. I live a little northeast of Oklahoma City and drove down to Irving, Texas. OKC to DFW area was 14.15 mpg, DFW area back to OKC was 16.25 mpg. I'm not sure how that worked out since the return trip is uphill. Zero dash lights, temp stayed almost dead center the entire trip. Zero mechanical complaints or issues.

FYI the temp gauge in the dash won't budge from dead center until it's already overheated; no warning before it goes to red and engine damage occurs. Get an obd2 adapter and Torque app for your phone, or a scan gauge to monitor things. And enjoy your Disco!

wjsj69 - my UltaGauge should be here by Christmas! However, my paranoia created by reading all the horror stories on this forum made me stop ever 75 miles or so and check under the hood for odd smells and sounds.

Hey! Fellow Okie here. Congrats on the trip. These things are just a joy to drive.Ive had mine for almost a week now. As mentioned, the temp gauge on the dash is worthless. Do yourself a favor and buy a OBD2 reader. I have an UltraGauge. Shows instant and precise engine temp, among other things that you can set up.

**edit** Looks like you were typing up the above post as I was making my post. You’ll like the UG.

Overheating is catastrophic, but if you have a good thermostat your fear should go to Defcon 1. If you've no idea the history of the thermostat - DEFCON 4!!!!

Okay, so I might have made a mistake in ordering my UltraGauge. I ordered the v1.4, is that correct? There is also the MX and the v1.2.

Mine is EM Plus V1.2

From the UltraGauge site..
http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/su...plus-v1.4.html

The UltraGauge EM Plus v1.2 is the current stable version.
The UltraGauge EM Plus v1.4 is experimental with a few enhancements and extra gauges which were added to better support select diesel vehicles.
Primarily v1.4 was created in response to 2015+ Sprinter diesel vehicles which do not support fuel measurements. UltraGauge v1.4 is designed to resolve this issue.
The enhancements in v1.4 are listed below. For each enhancement, there is a link to a list of vehicles which are believed to support the enhancement.

Please note that v1.4 is experimental and should not be purchased unless you are potentially willing to work with support to resolve any issues that you may encounter.

If your vehicle is listed under any particular feature, it does not mean that your vehicle needs that feature for UltraGauge to operate correctly, it means that your vehicle will benefit from the feature.

If your vehicle is not listed for any of the enhancements, it is likely that your vehicle will not benefit from v1.4
