First time start up.
So i recently inherited a 98 Disco that could use a little work. Im hoping someone here could steer me in the right direction!
I've been informed that the rover hasn't been started in a little over a year. Im a little concerned about the possibility of some of the seals drying up over time. Are there any special precautions i should take before throwing a new battery in it and starting it up? Is year old gasoline something that i need to worry about?
From what ive been told I know that the rover is due for an oil change and has a rear main seal leak..other than that it seems to be in great shape!!
..any advice for a new forum member before I dive in head first? thanks in advance.

May want to change oil before cranking, and filter, being sure to fill up filter with oil before installing it. Shell Rotella 15W40 is a good oil. Unplug fuel pump fuse under hood before cranking. Do some initial cranking (not starting) to build up oil pressure and circulate things, before adding the fuel pump fuse and really starting. A purist would change plugs, and squirt some oil in each cylinder before starting.
If truck was locked when battery went dead during storage, you may have an alarm immobilzation issue. I'd unplug the hood switch before installing a new battery.
It will drink the gas so fast you'll not have to worry about the stale stuff. Lucky to make 15 mpg.
Shop manual is called the RAVE, download is free below. Out tech sticky area has all sorts of DIY repair write ups.
Oil changes are usually every 5000, and a jumbo oil filter. As for rear seal, the White Shepherd product from parts store will usually fix or improve the situation.
