You must let it dry before any current passes thru because the stuff I think conducts electricity -- btw and it takes a minute to dry.
I have an older M-B too and those guys recommend it and it’s basically the only reason why the ECU’s and electrical systems on 90’s M-B’s work at this point.
Can i ask what you were charged for the repair on the fuse box? Im having this same kind of issues. As my box looks the same as yours did.
It was about $50 at my local electronics shop here. If you don't have anyone near you, if you want to ship it to me I can drop it off, have them fix it, and ship it back. They have experience with it now. Just an option. Sorry you're dealing with this, not fun.
Wanted to follow up again and mention that I think I found the reason the circuit board had a moisture problem. The little finishers at the top of the A-pillar looked like they were just fine but upon closer inspection realized they were missing the ends that prevented water from draining behind the A-pillar trim, which meant on particularly heavy rains, some might've gotten through to the cabin and onto the fuse box.
