Default Fixing a loose OBDII

My Discovery II 2002 has an OBD2 that won't sit in the trim harness anymore. Instead of rewiring a new OBD2 port, what do you think of adding an extender and plugging that into the trim?

If I did wire a new port, what is the cheapest way to get a replacement? All OBD2s are the same I think.

Photo:The OBD below has an extra port for a SAT. 12 bucks on Amazon

Thanks,
Sean

No reason the extender would not work, it is just an access port

Unless you need it to be fixed for inspection purposes (I've read of inspectors who will just fail a car if they can't plug in the connector with one hand), I'd just leave it loose. I tuck mine behind the trim to the right of the drivers footwell, along the center tunnel - this is convenient, since I can leave my Ultragauge plugged in and run the cord under the drivers floor mat and up the A pillar to where the screen is mounted, on the dash to the left of the cluster above the air vent.

I put a sheet metal screw on either side. Just between the trim panel and the OBD port, into the space between them. Works like a charm, rock solid.

If I remember correctly some stateside emissions test facilities will fail you for a loose OBD connector.
My Disco 2 failed in Atlanta, Georgia but it was their fault since they had the guy on video tripping over the connected cable and pulled my ODB port out of socket.

Thank you for the replies. I got the cord today from Amazon, 11 bucks. The new port snaps in nicely. I tied the GPS wire to the main cord, and plugged the main part to existing port. Transmits perfectly.

I got failed by the wonderful Illinois Emissions people before. Not happening again.

Thanks
Sean
