Wondering if a D1 (Model year unknown at this time) Transfer case will fit my 2003 D2. Anyone have experience with this?

Physically it might, but you will not have the electronics that work with your traction control, etc.

 

I believe there is a thread some months back where someone fitted a D1 LT230 complete with CDL but had to do some mods to the box to fit parts and electrics. I don't believe it was anything like a straight swap. Try a search for the thread.
