2004 D2 (75,000 Miles)

So I have the engine tore down to the point where I'm taking off the headbolts. I would have them off if it wasn't for the first bolt all the way aft of the drivers side. I'm learning humility.

First of all everything I take off I label and put in separate ziplock bags and when I was looking over my engine I found one of these where the valley gasket was and the other on the garage floor. I have no idea where they came from or what they do? I would rather find out now before I start putting it back together.

Any ideas?

 

They look like the valve cover spacer gizmos that keep the VC gasket from being crushed.

Awesome. That is the part. I went out and checked the gaskets I took off and two are missing.
