I'm prepping my timing cover for service. Upon inspection I see that the oil pressure relief valve plunger (the one with the holes in it) is installed, but the oil pressure by-pass valve plunger is missing. There is no oil cooler fitted on this '03. Do some people leave the by-pass plunger out or do I need to scramble now and try to find one?

 

I'm lost with the part names. Can you post pics and I can compare to front covers I have here?

 

There's a relief valve under one cap and just a spring under the other cap.

 

Okay, thanks that is what I have. I was concerned because a PDF file previously posted elsewhere on the forum indicates there should be a plunger valve (#4) under both caps, one for relief and one for by-pass.

 

Thank goodness for this post. I was starting to think I was crazy or that the plunger had popped out and got past me without me noticing. Whew!
