Default Front Driveshaft U-Joint Replacement

Ok, I just finished this job...
If I had to do it again for the first time, I would just buy one for $300...
But now after doing it once, the second time would probably take about 3-4 hours. The first time took significantly longer. It's very cumbersome for one person to align the double joint and work the press, etc. Just putting that out there for anyone considering this job... If you have the $$$ and haven't done a job like this before (which is harder than a single u-joint), you should probably just buy a new/rebuilt balanced one from one of the vendors.
My $0.02

Amen. Pretty hard to do on the patio with just a couple of hammers.

Take it from someone who has done it three times, it never gets easier.

I have a bench vise and a ball joint press... it might have taken me 2 hours?

FWIW.

Thanks for the honesty, Ive had this job on my mind since I bought my truck and I think Id rather save me some time and pita labor and just buy a rebuilt one.

I started to do mine myself a few years ago and pretty quickly realized it was a bad choice. So I took the old shaft and the new parts to a local driveline shop and had them do it. They charged me $80 for the labor so my total cost was ~$150. Money well spent. "You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em ..."

"the smarted man is the one that knows his limitations", I got mine from Dynamic Driveline. It installed in 20-minutes so I gained 1/2 a day or better of leisure time for a couple hundred bucks.
