Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you a PDF file on how to rebuild/replace the u-joints and centering ball as well as the part numbers of the better American made parts.

Just a quick tip on removing/installing u-joints - use a ball joint press! it makes your life so much easier.

I have always used a good bench vise. Is the ball joint kit better?

Dont buy from landrover, think i found and bitched about it orignally when i first joined, they wanted rediculous price for the joints.

after reading and consideration, buying a whole new shaft with greasables built in was way faster and not that expensive... plus you have the peace of mind of a new part thats balanced and has no wear from drying up ujoints!!

I would say yes, as 1)it's portable (it operates much like a pulley or gear puller), so if you have a u-joint failure on the trail somewhere, you can easily carry it with you, and 2) you're not risking the "mushrooming" of a socket (which I've done using a bench vise).

just my .02, but I haven't looked back since using a ball joint press.

The link provided includes rebuild instructions and part numbers for only U.S. made replacement parts.

When I did mine I bought the new joints at Advance Auto with the part numbers listed here. Brought the shaft to a professional place they said "Oh you have the parts, only labor costs then." Cost $60 for the joints changed by a pro, shaft sand blasted and re painted, shaft balanced. I thought it was a good deal; saved me an afternoon of work.
