I'm trying to rebuild my front propshaft but I can't even get the damn thing off. The 4 bolts connected to the transfer case came off fine, but the onces that go into the axle wont budge even after a penetrating grease, a torch, and a hammer. Anyone have any ideas?

 

 

the driveshaft bolts have been some of the least corroded ones i've seen over the entire underside of both of my trucks. i can't imagine that they wouldn't come loose with a spanner on one side and a breaker bar on the other, at the very worst. i haven't had to use more than a standard ratchet.
are you absolutely certain you're trying to loosen the correct bolts?

 

Yes I ended up getting it off with more heat and more force on the bolts. Like I said the ones towards the transfer case came off with no problem, it was the one ones that were connecting to the axle. But while I got it off, i ended up ruining one of the bolts so I need a replacement. Are these specific bolts or can I just get a match from home depot?

 

Nothing special. Just match what you have. While you're at it replace all the bolts and all the nuts with new ones.

 

And reassemble using anti-seize.

It took me nearly 3hr of banging on a very rusty D2 aka Mater to get the front drive shaft to break free from the transfer case. It was literally part of the flange lol. I didn't have anything to heat it so I just banged on it with a 7LB sledge (all I had during my very own RoadKill D2 episode lol). It actually broke free after I had just rolled out from under it. I heard a thunk and sure enough it had broken free!

The 500.00 D2 from apparently OH is a good learning experience for me as I don't deal with rust buckets down here in TX.
