Default Front windshield heater to fog lights

2000 Disco 2 115000 miles.

Hi, I recently had a new front windshield installed and did not go with the heated version. I had a great idea to use the switch and wiring to hook up my hella 500 straight beem lights. It didn't seem to work. When you press the front winsheld heater button the little light still pops on so I don't think it's a fuse issue. Is my idea a bad one? Any idea why it woudn't work?

Did you check for power with a multi meter?

The windshield is also on a timer, so your lights will go out every 5 minutes!

The BCU controls the front screen, the little switch tells the BCU you are requesting operation, and it turns on the relay in the under hood fuse box and powers up fuse 7 & 8.

Plus you would have to run the fog lights thru a relay to get the proper voltage if everything worked, which it won't as described above.
