Default Which Frost Plug Hole for Block Heater

I've received conflicting information on which hole to install the LR block heater into my '99 D2. There are several easily accessable frost/freeze/soft plugs on the drivers side (the knock sensor is above the middel one which is proving to be a problem), but all the passenger side plugs require removing a lot of stuff to get at them.

The dealer doesn't have an reference material to definitively say which side or which hole.

Has anyone else put one in or have better data?

It supposed to hit -31F tonight.

I have installed a pump plus heater unit in a hose to the heater core. If i was going to install one on my own disco i would drop the oil pan and pop a hole through the side making sure there were no clearence issure with the oil pump pick-up. A small 6in heater fan from wal-mart under the engine pointed up with the hood closed, should aslo be plenty of protection from crazy cold nights.

Pick one Zed, any one. Really does not matter which one.

Does anybody know the diameter of the freeze plugs? I am looking at getting a block heater this year.

Which ever one is the easiest to access is the right one to use, especially if you're paying someone to do it. As long as the heating element gets into the coolant passage you're good to go.

Check with Atlantic British. I'm pretty sure they sell them. They may be able to tell you the size you need so you can get it locally.

Or just buy a Katz stick on oil pan heater for $24. Unless you are talking about a diesel. May want to buy an oil pan heater in addition to the block heater at those temps.
