How hard is a fuel filter replacement? Where is the location?

May answers to that question. How hard it is going to be is how long since it was last replaced.
It is on the frame behind the right rear wheel.
Use PB Blaster Break Loose for a couple days before yoiu attempt this. Spray the couplers every day for two to three days and let it sit overnight each time yoiu spray them. Because of its location it will rust and you cannot get them loose. If yoiu live where they use road salt like I do yoiu are screwed.
Took me three hours my first time, I had to use a hack saw and cut the couplers inhalf longways being careful not to nick/cut the fuel lines.
Because of this I replace the fuel filter once a year and I spray the threads with anti-seize.
It is now a 15 min job.

Do I have to clamp any lines or should I just let it sit overnight?

They are steel lines so no, you cannot crimp them.
With it running you can pull the fuel pump fuse. I think that by the time you jack it up and remove the tire you are good to go. You will get some spray, just slowly loosen the lines and let the pressure bleed off, like opening a Pepsi that was shaken before if was handed to you.

DII's do not have a servicable fuel filter. It is intigrated into the fuel pump, when the pump goes bad you replace it with the fuel pump.
Any brand will work. I just put on a ACDelco this year, last year was a LR filter.

My '01 Montero was the same way. After 100k the pump was still going strong though. I wouldnt worry about it. just dump a can of SeaFoam into the gas tank every 6 months and use good gas and start saving up for a new fuel pump.
$1 a week into a savings account and when it does go bad you should have enough money.
