Default A funny thing happened at the car wash

This is so strange I thought it was worth getting some feedback form the rover gurus. It's been very cold in Southern CT for a while now. Finally got a chance to run my D2 (92k) thru a car wash. When I hopped back in and cracked up the heat, the blower motor sounded like the turbine on an Abrams tank! The deep bass sound is most noticeable on the highest fan setting, and you can hear it a little the setting below max. Any thoughts or has a gremlin taken over my heating system?

I'm no guru but I have had to get leaves and things out of the blower cage when the same thing happened.

Remove the kick plate over the passenger footwell. It is a very awkward space to work, but you will see the blower motor with three screws holding it in place. Remove those. If memory serves, there is a connector that you release to remove the motor. You will see the "squirrel cage" fan. It probably has some leaves and things in it. Just empty it and put everything back together.

My guess is the car wash just forced some leaves or water in. Basically the fan will be fine as long as any junk in it is balanced. Of course, you get less airflow even if it is balanced. It is like a washing machine... You don't want all of the clothes on one side or it vibrates when it spins.

An alternative plan is to keep the blower on high and a leaf will hit you in the face, eventually. Happened to me yesterday.

Best,

Charlie V

haha
I've only owned mine for a few months now and thought it was supposed to be really loud. I'll have to get in there and take a look.

I had insulation in mine. Weird that it happened right after car wash. Coincidence perhaps?

At the drying stage of the car washing cycle, the blowing moved debris into the blower fan ?

Nah that was just the Disco warning you that if you bring it to another carwash again, it WILL poop its CPS and humiliate you! That happened to someone else on here. hahaha so funny but man that would suck. But for future reference I strongly advise you use some die-electric grease around the CPS to seal out any water from getting into it, if it does it may kill the sensor and you will not be going anywhere.

Same thing here. I have had some of the foam insulation come loose and caused a similar sound. Just open up the housing and reach up in there, grab the loose stuff and pull it out.
