Default Gas cap door cover problem

The pin that holds the door closed will not retract while the door is open. Has anyone run into this and know how to fix it?

WD 40 or PB Blaster? And while you are at it lube the hood latch cable at both ends also.

Are you referring to the little metal piston that retracts to open the door?

Buzz where is the other end? I lubricate most all of my hinges including gas door piston. I also use lithium grease on the front hood mechanism.

I believe that pin only retracts when the fuel door button is pushed and comes back out when the button is released. More of a solenoid than anything.

^That's why I was asking if he's referring to the piston. It doesn't stay in, it only goes in to release the door, then shoots back out to catch the door as it comes back in.

That rod should stay extended as long as the button isn't pressed(at least it does on my 2003).

There's a small plastic catch on the door that pushes up and over it to hold the door closed. When you push the fuel door button on the console, the rod retracts, which allows the door to open.
