Gauging Mileage when purchasing a Disco
Whenever looking at a used truck, I always bring along a spark plug wrench so I can take a look and one of the plugs, as well as have a look at the PCV system. If both are in good order, and all the visible maintenance items seem upkept, and no obvious noises of concern - then it becomes a "candidate". If it isn't up to snuff at that point, I don't even bother with a test drive. If a candidate passes a test drive, then it becomes an "approved candidate".
I bought my D2 with 150000 on it and it had alot replaced.I did have to do the head gasket and front prop but(knocking very hard on wood) Ive got 167000 on now and she runs like a top.I would just try to find out as much history on it as you can ie carfax,lr dealer service and take your time going over it and checking it out.
I bought mine with 152,change and now she is at 186,change with less than $1000 in repairs.
It is always buyer beware, if you are serious about a certain one have a mechanic look it over and write everything down that needs attention.

Then with the truck running, remove the oil dipstick to see if smoke pours out - indicating backpressure. Generally, if the PCV has been maintained properly, then the more basic items, like oil changes, have likely been maintained as well.
A well maintained PCV, along with no issues detected by the state of the spark plugs, is usually a good sign.
