Gear shift dilemma. XYZ ?
Okay here's my problem. I was having problems with the shifter going into gear. seems like I couldn't find the right gear reverse neutral drive so I can cleaned the XYZ switch. It worked for a while then it wouldn't go into drive I had to jiggle the gear shifter to go into drive and it would go and not neutral. I changed the XYZ switch to another one and same situation. I adjusted it every which way still the same. I can't get it right it will work if I jiggled it gear shifter mess with it in drive and neutral and drive and neutral. All other gears line up perfectly. By the way it was a used XYZ switch. Any suggestions?
No I had the gear shifter all apart. Just feels a little loose in drive and N. Idk could be in my head. If I go from park all the way to 3 on the shifter lights up and lines up perfectly. Then if I go from 3 to D it goes in fine. Could it be the gear shifter itself or maybe I got a bad XYZ switch?
Ok so I went for a drive. No s and m lights or check engine light. Shifted fine. In order to get it into drive properly I had to from park all the way down to 3 then back up to drive. Did not kick out or have any problem. My guess it is the my new used XYZ switch. I'm going to try to find a known good one and go from there. Any other suggestions? Maybe i don't have it adjusted right? But why just D and N? Idk. Thanks
When you adjusted it how did you do it? The two 10mm bolts that secure it to the transmission? Or by the PRND321 linkage cable 13mm nut? You can move it back/forth via the 10mm bolts, but it sounds more like the shifter cable 13mm adjustment. I’d try to take all the slack out of that or add a little.
Yes I tried them both. I'm going to give it another look at tomorrow. One other thing I noticed is the one I bought off eBay was for 2004. I have a 2002. Not sure if there is a difference? Roverland parts sell 2 different ones. Anyways thanks for the responses. I'll let you know what I find out.
Ok just an update for everyone. Turns out it just needed adjusted after all. I finally had my brother work the shifter while I was under the car adjusting it. So far so good. Just a side note I wish I took a picture of my original switch I took off drilled the rivets out and cleaned up. The inside had nasty white corrosion all through it I couldn't believe it worked at all. Thanks for the suggestions!
