Default gear stick sprung to 1st/2nd

Hi

I have just bought a K reg discovery, the gear stick is sprung to 1st and 2nd not 3rd and 4th. Is it supposed to be like this? It is really hard to drive it like this.

He's probably got a European spec d. He doesnt like the shift becuase 1&2nd are spring loaded to the left. I believe the box is a muncie. not much we can do on this one. The shifter is drop in and no linkage. Maybe try a shop to bend the shifter rod towards the driver more. scott

US rovers and "across the pond" rovers are still the same vehicle mechanically just you lot have the steering on the wrong side... and as for the female bit, well are you married?... if not, would you like to be? and now on to your query, we just need a few more details to help you out... the "sprung to 1st or whatever" do you mean that when the gear shift is put into neutral and you release your hand from it it automatically springs over to where first and second are? which i guess in your case would be towards your passenger side? i could see how that would get old... just fill us in with as much info as you can... we understand small words in short sentences and most of us have some experience interpreting whatever language it is you females speak about cars in into regular words...... i hope u didnt get discouraged and leave the forum never to return...
