Default Gears

Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance.

I have an automatic Discovery 2 and would like some information on the following:

1) High/Low Gears:
a) How do the High/Low gears work?
b) When should the respective gears be used?
c) Are there any conditions/limitations that should be followed when using them?

2) Can I shift the gear stick between D, 1, 2, and 3 WITHOUT stopping the vehicle?

Cheers.

high gear should get you thru nearly everything. you can go from 1, 2, 3 and D without stopping yes. to shift into the low or high you must be stopped and in neutral. to use the HDC you must be in low. i wouldnt go faster than 25 in low but others will say you can go faster than that.... welcome to the madness.

The rev limiter will keep you from going to fast when in low.
Low range should be used when off roading, deep snow, pulling the boat out of the water, pulling stumps out of the ground etc.
Basically anytime you need maximum torque.
Hi range is for normal driving, it is a full time four wheel drive so you are always in 4x4.

When driving off road I always put the transmission in 2nd gear and keep it there unless going down a big hill then I put it in 1st.

Hi,

I have an automatic Discovery 2. What gears would you recommend that I should use in snow / icy weather?

Cheers.

Keep it in high as long as your traction control is working (no 3 amigos) you will have no problems. If you get in really deep stuff and need to go slow then put it in low.
