Hi everybody,

I have a Discovery II 2002 , and recently I have noticed that if I pass more than 2000 revolutions the gearbox starts acting weird and shifts downwards to another gear, and then goes back to the original gear. What do you think could be the problem? I have automatic transmission and this happen going more than 40mph.

I would start by checking the transmission fluid level, then I would have the alternator and battery tested for proper voltage.

Yes it could.
The tansmission on a DII is electronic and if the transmission computer is not getting the correct voltage it will act up.
If the voltage gets to low the "M" and "S" lights will flash on the dash and the trans will go into "limp mode", you will only have 3rd gear.

I will have the alternator replaced and see if that fixes the issue.

 

If the voltage checks out to be OK then I would suggest you take the truck to a tranny shop, not the dealer and have them reset the adaptive memory, sometimes it gets out of wack and needs to get set to your driving habits.
Let us know how it goes.

 

Do not just have the alternator replaced, call your mechanic and tell him that you need a charging system check, he will check the battery cables, alternator, everything that needs to be checked and then tell you what you do/do not need.
