Default That 'clunck' when stationary shifting gears. (98 Disco)

Hi all:

Could use someone's expertise who's experienced this issue before or knows of it. I have a 98 Disco with roughly 140k on it. When I come to a stop to do into reverse, let's say to park, I can hear strong 'clunk' sound. It can be felt a little too. It seems to come from the transfer case? What are your thoughts? Front or rear driveshaft? U joints? Transfer case issue?

If it helps, full transmission fluid/filter change in 2011. Just this past month did transfer case, engine, and both front and rear diff fluids. Still hear and feel that 'clunk' when coming to a stop and changing into reverse. Or back into drive.

Let me know! Thanks!!!

So you have a CLUNK when shifting from P to R and/or P to D? It wouldn't hurt to check your Ujoints, but more than likely it is just normal Disco slop. They all have it, some worse than others.

I have the same clunk. Never thought anything about, figured it was "normal disco slop". Now you got me thinking...

Are you 2 referring to the u joints on the front and rear driveshafts?

Thanks! Doing a little more research I think you guys are right. Turns out the u-joints are pretty common for that problem. Manually checking for play on both the front and rear driveshafts. I'll be replacing the u-joints and see if it tightens things up. I'll repost when I do if this thread is still up and let you know how it worked out!
