I can't find a ton of discussion about using an LR genuine oil filter vs Mobil 1, Wix, etc. Most of the conversation is debating merits between aftermarket brands. With OEM filters only being about $2-5 more than Mobil 1 filters, it got me wondering whether going OEM is just the way to go. I've been using M1 and STP XL filters up until now and have an OCI coming up in a couple weeks. Just wondering your thoughts.

 

OEM filters are made by one of the aftermarket brands and then branded by LR; in this case, Mann made the filter for Discovery 2s. In practical terms, the best oil filter is the one you change regularly, but all of the major premium brands are going to be about the same.

 

Mobil1 M301, K&N 3001, and Wix = all good!!
