Default Getting a 2004 Disco II

Whats good to look out for when getting these cars with just over 100k on the clock? Is there anything that goes on these vehicles at this mileage?

Yes, depending in part on service history. While you can look at a list from us, nothing beats an hour of inspection by a competent mechanic familiar with the trucks. This small investment can save you tons of trouble.

Coomon problems: Water pump, head gaskets, radiator clogged, over heating, ticking noise from several sources, cracked engine block, wiper switch, all door electric lock operators, battery, oil pump, oil seal (ront crankshaft) CV swivel joints. What never fails is the alarm system. It will lock the vehicle down so tight you can't get in and can't crank it.

But with all the potential faults, they are still great trucks and just about anything is a DIY fix. You'll find write ups on common stuff in our tech section, and full factory tech manual available for free to download below, includes owner's manuals. It is called the RAVE. You can use www.statewidelit.com to search all of craigslist in your state and have all Rovers grouped by metro area; helps evaluate pricing.

Other than "gifts" at no cost, lowest recent prices include $50 for a D1 needing head gaskets, and $2000 for a Discovery 2 with only 117 miles on it, garage kept. Your search will probably be different.

I have seen 2 people this week alone that thought they could inspect a Disco prior to buying and both got screwed. If you want to buy a vehicle and you have never owned one before then spend the money and have a good Rover mechanic do a pre-purchase inspection or you may buy a surprise.
