LANDZU

How funny is that... I also have a Rover (2003) as a second car and drive a VW TDI every day. I am averaging 36MPG over the past 4,000 miles (nearly all commute type driving).

I am selling the Rover however, I bought a 2007 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab. Everything you guys state in here is accurate. Nothing horribly major wrong with my Rover, just seemingly constant little things. Because of the VW however, I only have 31k on my 2003 Rover so not that many miles for stuff to go wrong.

I got 17 MPG in my Chevy truck commuting to work one week that I drove it, and when I did drive the Rover it was mid 13's.

The couple times I took the Rover offroad (on the beach in NC), it was indeed spectacular. I went into some very soft areas where I would never take this truck. I drove right on by guys that were buried up to their axels in sand. Literally... I felt bad... but not that bad.

Depending on how much I can sell the Rover for... I might end up keeping it. Maybe keep it, put on a lift kit, some nerf bars....

Nothing like going from one extreme on fuel economy to
the other.

My TDI is a 5 speed and my last fill up was in town and
I got my best in town mpgs ever 41mpg a lot of 5th gear
putt ing around after vag-com.
I'm on Freds TDI page as 2slowTDI.

I paid exactly 14K for a 2002 discovery with only 42 thousand miles and a 24,000 mile warranty and I love the thing. Its so much fun to take offroading and on trips. I have only had one problem with mine, the power window motor went out but it was covered in the warranty. But you should be able to find a nice disco with under 50k miles for $14,000.

WOW it sound really scary now but i love these cars a lot to much but dont really have the fund to fix it and we can only spend 14k and that finance too,and my wife drive a ave 60 miles a day...
60 miles a day on 93 octgas, plus the cost to maintain it is $.
Mine is a 2nd car backpack/ kayak/ campinggear hauler.

Mydaily driver is a VW TDI diesel38 to 51mpg.

I do like to drive my Disco and do so when I not on the way to
work and that makes all the better.

You may want to wait, they are great trucks but may not fit
your/her needs at this time.

Gas willnever get any cheaper!
Ouch. By my calculations gas alone will probably set you back $4000 vs a similar sized rig that might only cost $2800 in gas. Plus the added wear and tear.....no thanks. Discos like to be driven daily, but not like that.

I guess I am the crazy one at the moment...I picked up my landrover a last weekend and in that time I have aleady put 500 miles on it. I am currently using it for work and put on about 100 miles a day. Depends on where I have to go for work...but I was driving a truck before this and it only got 16 so getting 15 is not to bad. Granted gas is 20c more a gallon but Irather pay that then give up my land rover...
