If it is the upper hose that should not take very long to fix. If you really live that close just use a tow rope to get it home with another vehicle and then fix it your self.

You may be able to replace it without buying a genuine part either, for the most part a hose is a hose unless it has a super crazy bend you cannot get anywhere else.

Apparently you missed the part in my signature about my other car being a Boxster. That would be a funny sight, though!

I seriously considered it, but with money being tight, the risk of catastrophic failure (even if remote) far outweighed the benefit of saving a hundred bucks. (For those lawyers/law students out there, anybody remember the Hand formula? I thought I had forgotten it until just now.)

Since your Disco is a new acquisition you should consider replacing the thermostat ($20) and flushing the coolant system and filling it with fresh coolant and add a bottle of water wetter. Now is the ideal time since half your coolant is down the drain anyway.

 

That was one of the next things on the list for me anyway, was just trying to recover from driving all over creation over the holidays.

Is it common for the hoses to go on these things, or should I be worried that something caused it to go?

 

It's not common, but hoses do go eventually. At your mileage you should check and replace the other hoses as necessary, or just replace them all for peace of mind.
