We took the 97 out for our first road trip. We went out to the deep Creek mountains along the Utah/Nevada border. We followed the pony express trail all the way out there then went north to Wendover to go to the casino then back I-80 to Salt Lake City. Most of the pony express trail was dirt road some of it unimproved and when we got to deep creek, we went part way up the mountain over some rough, steep, sandy trails. The rover performed flawlessly. Even going 60mph over dirt roads, it was like riding on air and when we went up the mountain, the truck was just plain unbelievable. The ability of this truck off road is hard to believe! We went 390 miles with only half of it being highway/pavement and 114 miles at 75mph along the interstate. Now I do not drive like grandma by any means and belive in working an engine properly ( using gear box as needed). I calculated my mileage and it was 17.01 mpg ( doublechecked the figures three times - way better than I expected considering we went up the mountain and were often on dirt roads and up hills. I put 91 octain in and added 5 gal of 88 in wendover just to be sure to have plenty. I added no cleaners or octain booste . This is with around 450 - 500 lbs of people/gear/dogs. The truck ran like a top. So far the best vehicle money I have spent in a long time. I hope that I can still say that in 6 months, but so far, so good
