One more possibility that is less destructive, and hopefully I can explain it well enough....

It appears there's about 1/8 inch or less clearance between the fan and the pulley. The nut is aligned so perhaps two 1/8 inch by 1 inch strips of flat bar 12 inches long could be slid through the gap on opposite sides of the nut, then clamped together on the outside with two small bar clamps, the types typically used for woodworking. If you can hold the pulley, the two bars clamped together might be able to grip the nut well enough to free it.

engine hot. hot! no idea - 130*C? -How hot is hot for an engine? That will be the temp the coil is designed to expand at.

I'd use a hot air gun - used for stripping paint etc.

You can try a hair dryer but I don't think it will get hot enough. Is your radiator still out? If it is you might get a hair dryer striaght on and quite close. Still probably won't get hot enough.
And you might be in serious trouble if you blow the hair dryer up!

Hot air gun will be safer than a blow torch.

Good Luck!

I tried a hair dryer and no dice. I shall see if I can get my hands on a hot air gun in the next few days.

btw I completed the pictures and directions that I HOPE will be worthy of being added to the MAJOR SERVICES sicky. I could not figure out how to upload the damn thing so I emailed it to DISCOMIKE just a few mins ago. If he likes it you may be seeing it on here soon.

I tried it on an old fan clutch too - it did move the coil but not enough.

heat gun is the go.

still not sure if it will work.

i like rtonder's suggestion as well.
you could even fab something with some tin strapping. Just cut two strips about 12" long and one strip 2" or 3" long pin them together in a "C" shape (short length between the long ones)the gap should idealy be around 1.5".

then work it into the gap (between the fan & pulley) and try and clamp it around the clutch.
the strapping might just be flexible enough to twist inside the pulley but stiff enough to clamp.

Be careful as the heat gun can give you a serious burn. It might help to fill a large zip lock bag with ice cubes and drape it over the water pump thirty minutes before you have at it with the heat gun. The cold will draw heat from the water pump shaft (shrinking it slightly) while the heat gun on the fan hub coil should add heat to the nut, making it expand slightly. All three together might be just enough. Good luck.

just trying to lock the clutch by simulating an over heated engine.

heating it enough to expand the nut would probably melt the fan ruin the clutch internals etc.

But keep the ice handy in case you burn yourself.

Just returned from harbor freight and bought a heat gun that goes up to 1100 degrees. didnt work. It was kinda cool watching the coil very slowly spool out but other than 4 or 5 mins worth of low level amusement I got nothing out of it. The fan is still just spinning on the shaft. I will go out this afternoon and remove the waterpump with the fan attached to it. Maybe once I have it on the workbench where I can play around with it something will come to mind...

Its official. Nothing has come to mind. Tomorrow I shall be dropping off the whole waterpump/fan shabang to the nice gentleman who did the machining and whatnot to the heads. I am no fool, I know when it is time to pay a specialist for an hour of their time. Now is when I should pay him for an hour of his time.
