I just realized what the post said, my bad, I didnt mean remove from the head I meant remove completely. I got it figured out and it is sitting nicely in there when we took out the bolts to the head. Summary: I am a dumb *** and cant phrase a question.

and he is here helping.

UPDATE:
We have the driver's side head off and the gasket was trashed. Coolant sitting on top of one of the pistons. The other head has 2 bolts being stubborn and we broke our only 6 point 5/8 socket and ran out of beer so that is the end of our mechanic-ing for the day. Gotta go get cleaned up for a BBQ. I will stop by Sears tomorrow and replace the socket and we shall have another go at it. Almost done. Well almost half-way done to be more accurate. Got a TON of pics that I will post if someone is willing to do the write up to make it a sticky...

I went and opened the package the head gaskets were in and ALL the other gaskets I need are sitting right there in the box - Go British Atlantic!

The adventure continues tomorrow.

Congrats to myself! I just pasted my 500th post. Guess I owe myself a bottle of Maker's Mark for that.

Hey pilsner, it sounds like you could really use a hand down there.... I am up north in carnation so if you get really stuck feel free to hit me up and i can make a trip down there. I would be more than happy to bring tools and such, just cover my gas and make sure that there is beer.

I appreciate the gesture but I think that we have it covered. Wait, where is carnation?
i may pay for gas just to have some moral support.

UPDATE: Got the heads completely removed and the parts de-greased. Decided to degrease under the hood while I was at it. The heads go to the machine shop on monday to get tolerances checked and machined. (Is there any way for me to check the tolerances myself? I know how to read a set of micrometers...)
Going to install the new waterpump tomorrow after breakfast.

ok, off to drink the Maker's Mark to celebrate my 500th post yesterday.
cheers!

Ok yet ANOTHER dumb question: When I opened the package from British Atlantic, in addition to the gaskets that I didnt know I already purchased, there is;

16 blue rubber/plastic bushing-type things (I assume since there is 16 of them they have something to do with the rocker arms maybe ?)
8 black rubber washers (?) or bushings(?) with square edges
16 black rubber washers or bushings with rounded edges (o-rings perhaps?)

Where do these items go?

Once again, a million graciases mi amigos

Btw there was no parts list in the box -I already checked that.

Well that makes perfect sense. I do believe that that job is WAY beyond what I am willing to attempt. Anything the RAVE manual says is 36 steps long is over my head.

What is reasonable number of hours for an indy shop to charge to to rebuilt the heads?

Btw gentlemen, props to all of you who helped out so far and kept me from hurting myself or the rover. I am deeply greatful and quite proud that I was able to take apart my rovers engine (with a little adult supervision of course). I may even have to reward myself with a set of tools of my own if she fires up when we are done.

Remember I am an army medic not a mechanic. People I can fix, things that work off of internal combustion confuse me...
