The Great Head Gasket Adventure
Brian, Disco Mike told me about a Marine battery that he liked more than the Optima, I can't recall the brand, but it was less in cost than the Optima and as I recall, a better battery. You might drop Mike a line and check on it. Good luck. Thanks for your service. Phil
I just got back from buying the redtop optima. Got a decent price on it so I will prolly stick with it. Enless the other one is WAY better and comparably priced. But thank you for the heads up.

I got the yellow top - supposed to be better for running accessories (fridge) without having to go to a dual system. So far so good.

UPDATE: I have gotten all the parts back from the machine shop and made several trips to autoparts store. The rover is re-assembled and some other things are done as well ; new bosch +4 plugs and 8mm wires, new waterpump, new optima battery and battery cables, cleaned up the old parts before I put them back on, etc. She is really looking good.
However, when I started teh truck the serpentine belt immediately slipped off the fan pulley. I got to looking and the fan pulley doesnt match up with the other pulleys, i.e. it sits closer to the grille than all the other one. It seems that I installed the pulley BACKWARD on the waterpump shaft. Ok, sounds like a simple fix right? Uh no- now I cannot get to the nut on the fan to isolate it to remove the fan. I have stood there for a 6-pack worth of contemplation trying to figure out how to remove the fan to get at the pulley. I tried to hold the pulley by hand and rotate the fan counterclockwise and it didnt work - the fan just spins on the shaft while the pulley remains stationary.
SUGGESTIONS?!
HELP?! anybody have any idea on how I can unf*ck this mess? Ok, I had one idea but it involved full coverage insurance and some C4 from work...
If my explaniation of the mess is inadequate I will post a picture in the morning.
thanks
Brian

Even though the belt will not sit straight on the water pump pulley, with it routed through all other pulleys, tensioners, etc, will it offer enough resistance to get the fan clutch off with a wrench and hammer? Or is it too far off kilter that the belt slips off the pulley when you try to remove the clutch?
Can you run the backside of the belt around the pulley completely and cinch it tightly with some vice-grips to hold the pulley from turning while the fan clutch is wrenched off?

I used this to get mine off my range rover,,Take a very large screwdriver at least 12" one and put it on the corner of the fan nut. Take a small sledge hammer and start tapping..well give it some good wraps and that should loosen it up enough to be able to spin it off. you will want to get a cut in the bolt so it has something to grip so hit it good the first time....
C4... i love it....

Ah yes, how the **** did you get it on? Time to start cutting it off in fact you cannot reach the bolt at all
