Has anyone pinned their own liners
Absolutely correct.....liners in 04 and 03 did not slip more than any other year and the tick...99% of the time is cracked oil gear like mine and worn main and rod bearings....I mean really...after 100k on any engine is a crap shoot...unless you think nascar races 100k engines...

I pinned all 8 about 3 years ago following the lead (and posts) from others on this forum. The loud ticking at idle immediately disappeared and has not returned. A few years before pinning, I was able to keep the ticking at bay by installing new bearings (not sure that made any difference), running straight distilled water, and an in-line t-stat mod - but it eventually came back. She’s been crazy quiet since the pinning operation - currently over 260K (only pistons, rods, and cam bearings are still original). I did it with a right angle drill without removing the engine, but did remove the crank and replaced all bearings again while I was in there. In hindsight, it would have been cleaner and easier to pull the motor, pin, and rebuild.

Its either slipped liner, low oil pressure, or exhaust leak. You can test for hte last two, if it is not those you can pin the liners.
I am pretty sure the last two arent the issue, had those checked recently. Any idea on how much that kind of job would cost? Just like to know so I don't get a bad deal/ripped off.
