You need to check your wiring.
Your grounds, everything.
We also need to know if it is a DI or DII.

Default re electrical

Dont know if this may be the issue, but I recently bought a 1998 discovery I and the reason the owner was selling was because he couldnt keep alternators on it. The problems started when they changed the waterpump at a local garage. 3 alternators later and $1500 still wouldnt charge. I brought it home acter I bought it, popped the hood and noticed that the sepentine belt was put on wrong! It was tigjt just enough to keep it from mot squealing but woulcnt let it charge properly. This allowed me to buy this ride for only $1900 and is running like a top .

Just like glovings said, it is very very easy to route the belt wrong on a DI.
It will look right, everything will turn, but it wont be right.

Default Serpentine Belt

Yeah. It looks logical when you take it off. But when you go to put it on it's a different story. I had to resort to a diagram and do it by the numbers. ;^P
