Default hazards flashing-wont start

i just replaced my plugs and wires, got in the car to crank it, turned to position 2 the locks clicked, it wasn't a full cycle just a click and the hazards started flashing. I tried to crank it and it will crank but will not start. I disconnected the battery to get the hazards to turn off which worked; so i tried to crank it again-same problem. Any suggestions? I was very careful to make sure that I didn't knock anything loose while i was changing the wires and didn't see anything blatantly obvious.

Put your key in the door and lock and unlock the door 3 times, for some reason you set off the alarm.
Next thing to do would be to reset the inertia switch on the firewall.

x2 on the inertia switch. It is the device with a rubber button on the top on the right side of the firewall.

Working near the firewall in the imaginary space left by Rover engineers it is quite possible to contact the inertia switch, either just a good bump or knock a wire loose.

you guys hit the nail on the head! it was the inertia switch. the bracket that holds it broke on the the ears off and allowed it to move sideways-thus throwing the switch. thanks again guys!

Damn guys, this helped me more than I can express, not to mention how happy it made me.

It was most certainly the inertia button.

Thank you, sincerely.
