Head gasket job Questions
#251
So far, so good! Long drive tomorrow to MINNESOTA, have had two good long test drives in traffic, and temps are 198-202.
No codes. No visible leaks. Have topped off coolant twice.
Made a tool bag bag just in case for my trip, but she is running very smooth. Even better than last HG job.

As No Doubt represented, it may be worth doing youself if you feel confident and the tool is not more expensive than having a shop do it. Aside from compressing the spring, it didn’t look difficult at all. As long as the heads are out I would change them, and I would have knowing then what I know now and all that.
How is it going?

Got to MINNESOTA. The temps were good, got to 209 on a long gradient, but stayed mostly 200-202 in 89 degrees, got to 198 in 76 degree temps up here.
The engine feels as good as it ever has, but I wasn’t pushing it with my little guy in back. The iPad did not perform as well as the Land Rover. So he missed out on Moana, only got to watch Coco and trolls.
It’s raining Aon i have not peeered under the hood since fill up.
One thing I notice is that there is zero smoke out of the tailpipe. I thought that was normal! Denial is a hell of a drug.

With the all metal Cometic gaskets, new bearings from your rebuild, decked/ported heads plus manifold, Crower cam, and ARP studs, you are going to have a solid motor that blows away the Rover factory original.
This is how you do "quality" for both performance and long engine life.
Enjoy.
