Knowing there is a leak via pressure test is one thing. Locating the leak is another and more important. Several days now without any visible leak or drop in coolant level. Looks like problem is solved. It was the water pump. On to the next problem.

2 questions.
1. did you do the sump, if so, how nasty was it, in there? thinking about getting into mine for some spring cleaning.

2. wtf, is with tiny az font? hard to read, looks like sugar ants are attacking my computer. this is the reason I missed the sump part, if its in there.

good to hear that you got it sorted out

Ok. Here is another word of caution. The truck has been ruuning fine since the water pump issue, so I decided to put some money into it. It has been about 3 weeks without any majot issue …until yesterday. I put on brand new tires. About $500 and the next day saw coolant leaking. What is it with these trucks and coolant problems?. This time I am happy to report it was my screw up and not the truck.

The truck has been running quietly and smoothpurring) since head gasket job. But yesterday the temperature gauge went up, with steam and coolant leak. Popped the hood to see whats up with engine off. Notice that coolant was around the brass HDepot fitting. I thought it may be leaking coolant around the thread. To be sure I replaced the brass screw with the plastic bleeder screw which arrived and I never installed. Turned the engine on and watched. Leak was not from the bleeder screw, to my surprise it looked like coolant was coming from the big coolant hose top of the radiator. It looked like the hose broke. Looked even closer and saw what happened. Since I left the shroud cover off when I did the head gasket job, the engine fan was spinning and striking the coolant hose only occationally. It actual cut a hole into the hose which started leaking. My Bad. Guess I should have replaced the shroud cover sooner. Repaired the hose, put on shroud and all is well.

I left the shroud off for a quick look at any leakes etc.

After HG job drove my rover one year no issues.

Then replaced radiator, 180 degree tstat, fan clutch and drove it for 6 more months.

No issues.

Just keep the drive shafts greased.

Fixing it in the parking lot - in Colorado gave me good luck....

the truck is not junk.
Just maintain it and don't over heat it.
Will go to 180,000 miles easy.

Thanks for posting, I am just starting the HG replacement on my 03 Disco. So far some tips I see are, 12 pt sockets, the more you take out the more you have to put back together, follow the torque procedures, get the heads milled... what are some other things anyone wished they would have done differently when doing the HG? Maybe I can learn from some mistakes instead of making them..? Thanks guys.

You should always have a fan shroud on as it helps pull air in from the front of the car rather than simply move air around in your engine bay. Plus these trucks cannot stand a hot engine the least bit.
