Default Heat Problems

A few months ago I bought a used Land Rover Discovery II - year is 2000, just over 125k miles.

It has a few minor issues - and two major issues (at least to me) one of which developed only two days ago.

I have had no problems with AC or heat since I bought the vehicle. However, two days ago when I started the car and let it warm up for about 10 minutes and came to get in it was still cold. I had to get to work so I suffered through it on the way to work. It was pretty cold that day so I assumed maybe that was why. Although, in negative 6 degree weather a few weeks ago I didn't have this problem, so I was a bit confused since it was 10 degrees out.

Anyways, today it was about 40 degrees outside. However, when running the heat at any warm/hot temperature the car would not warm up. Even with the temperature settings maxed out it was blowing cold air.

The only exception it seems is with a lot of engine revving and then the car will blow warm air for a few minutes although it doesn't come out very strong.

What things can I start checking?
I am a new land rover owner - this is my first so I am not accustom to all the quirks yet.
What should be checked first? What things can I try doing to resolve this problem? I have found a few ideas online and thought about checking the engine coolant. Could this be the cause of the problem?

Thanks for any help and ideas you can provide!
I have absolutely fallen in love with this vehicle. Once I resolve this issue I will post a question about my second concern and hopefully once that is resolved I can enjoy the vehicle even more.

Start by checking your coolant level, I suspect that it is empty.
DO NOT overheat the engine, if you do you will be buying a new one. Aluminum engines do not take overheating well.
Once you get the coolant filled take it to a shop and have them pressure test the cooling system.

Thanks - that seems to have solved the problem.

Now, onto another issue. I am wondering if all of my dashboard lights are working...
Most come on when I start the car - SRS, Seat belt, etc.

However, if I keep my seat belt off the light doesn't stay on - is that normal?
Also, if I push the button for the downhill descent assist I hear a few short beeps. But, the downhill descent light does not light. Is this normal? Does it only light when it is being used but not necessarily when I enable it?

I just want to make sure all the lights are functioning.

It worries me that my coolant was low almost completely out and I had no warning. It never overheated but maybe that's because it wasn't very warm out and I wasn't driving very far.

One more question the passenger seat warmers work very well. However, the drivers side seat warmers do not work very well, if at all. I can't tell for sure - sometimes they seem a little warm but I think it may just be the heat. Is there something I can check into to see if something is unplugged or a fuse is blown? I assume that both seat warmers use the same fuse but maybe that is not the case.

Thanks again!

If you didn't bleed your coolant system when adding fluid, the problem will probably come back.
PM me with your tele number and I will call you and walk you thru what to do.
