Default Heater always operating

I'd like to start by saying thanks to everyone for posting and sharing information. I've been reading for quite some time and truly appreciate all the guidance given on this forum. It's saved me tons of money and time.

I've searched for this problem with no luck, so I apologize if this has already been covered. I have a 2000 Disco II with 98,500 miles. Everything is in fantastic working order now that I have done Disco Mikes 60K service, with the exception of my heat. Blows hard and hot, but when I shut the heat off (ie...hit the power button and the display unit goes blank) , it continues to blow hot air at the same rate. I know I can just shut the vents, or lower my windows, but I'd like to take care of the issue before it turns into something bigger. I wouldn't say that I am mechanically savvy, but I'm willing to try anything and am a quick learner. Thanks to all that reply.

Are you sure that the blower is turning on? I constantly have to turn my heater controls from lo to high depending on what the temp is. It seems like some air will always come through, and if you have it set at a lower temp before you turn it off it will be cooler when it is off.

That is normal, when the system is shut of, there is a given amount of hot air from the engine compartment that is always coming thru and it is real hot, to the point of making your right leg very uncomfortable.
Do your self a favor and leave the system on cause there is no cure for this.

Here's what I found to lessen the problem. Before turning the heater off, set the temperature to one of the lowest settings, set it to windshield defrost only mode and set the blower to 0 ( where there's not even a line showing) then turn the heater off. Should see and feel a big difference.

You can even leave it at the temperature it was on if you want. That way you don't have to re-adjust the temp when you turn it on.

I always find if after i turn it off and switch it to a different setting at a different temperature I.e. cold to hot or hot to cold, it usually helps the problem. Maybe it's just mental, lol

He is talking about air that comes off the tranny hump from the engine compartment, not Rovers other problem with not being able to shut of the heater system completely.
