Default Heater Core Bad? Please advise

I've noticed recently that she's been drinking a lot of coolant, and today there was a little drip under the hood from one of the hoses going into the dash. Had to lift the front end of the car up to replace the O2 sensor and after I did that all this coolant runs down into the passenger floorboard carpet. Quite a mess, so has this been stored in the heater core? Is the core bad or maybe one of the hoses inside the dash running in to the core? A guy at the shop tells me this is a 8 hour job just pulling the dash and console out to get to the core and check it and the hoses. 03 with 87k, any advice?

I think you are going to have to rip into the dash to see what the problem is. You should be able to look at the Rave CD to see what is involved though.

Just to add, any mechanic that wants to charge you 8 hrs to do a heater core is going to screw you over, this is a 2 hr DIY job.
I was told the same thing for my wifes Volvo, took me 1.5 hours ro remove/replace her heater core.
