Sounds like you need a tune up.
I was told recently by a Rover tech that as long as you keep the PCV system clean the headgaskets should last forever.

Question Pcv

Leaving the rover overnight at my mechanic so he can start it first thing in the morning to see what he thinks. I am hoping it is just a tune up. What is the PCV not to sound stupid on this.. Thanks

The Positive crankcase ventilation is on the passenger valve cover and it goes to the intake plenum.
Remove the hose from the valve cover and inside the valve cover is a weird looking thing, pull it out and clean it with carb cleaner, do this every 6 months.
That is the PCV system on these trucks.
Basically what it does is it sucks the gases and water vapor out of the crank case and routes it to the engine to be burned.
If it is clogged pressure will build up inside the engine and blown gaskets and seals.

Your truck has no idea of your gender. But you are wise to describe issues with sounds, etc. The water rushing in dash is an indication that there are air bubbles in the cooling system. The heater core (a small radiator) is located under the dash and has coolant circulating thru it all the time, even when AC is on.

Bad thing is that sometimes this noise is an indicator of head gaskets. But, it can also just be air trapped in the system from a leaky hose connection. Mechanic can purge the air from the system. There is a chemical test for "combustion gas in coolant" that can be done that would prove or disprove head gaskets.

Wink I knew it was not me!!

I had told my husband and he just giggled about the water in the dash. Thank you so coming up with an explanation for the water, it explains the sound at least. Still pray its not the head gasket.

Hearing the water in the dash is just the way most of us know that we need to top off the coolant.

Print the attached drawing out for reference by hub and mechanic. Arrows show direction of coolant (water and antifeeze). Item 1 is the heater core.

Top off the coolant like was already said, if the "waterfall in the dash" comes back you have a blown head gasket and that would explain the rough running when cold and coolant loss.
