Help with coil packs?
Was having serious misfire issues with my disco, changed the spark plugs and somehow managed to change the wires without bleeding too much.
The problems persisted, and I just had a gut feeling that the coils were bad. Bribed a mechanically inclined friend with a case of beer, and we got knee-deep in it, removed the intake manifold, got the coil pack out, and could immediately tell that it was the culprit. Number 4 connection was completely melted, evidently the last person to work on it did not seat the wire properly, coil is shot. At least now I know what the problem is (I hope).
Searching for a replacement (impossible to find in any parts store where I live) online, I'm seeing several different types... complete units with all 8 connections, some with 4, even singles. I'd rather not have to do this again any time soon, so just looking for some technical expertise as to what brand/type I should order?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I certainly can't imagine how people would sell singles for this application, but if you've narrowed it down to one pack, get the 4 pack for that side. Bosch or Land Rover, basically the same thing.
Thank you for the reply. Do you think it would be worthwhile to go ahead and replace all 8 while I have it out, or is this something that fails so rarely as to assume that the other 4 will be fine for quite a while yet?
There are two coil packs. I would Replace both since you already have gone this far.

Removing the hood also helps a lot. Remarkable how light weight they are. I can remove and install myself. I have a long wing span!

Get a moving blanket and put it over the front part of your engine so you can lay on it while you work back there. I would definitely replace both while you have the upper intake manifold off. Be prepared to patch up some of the hard plastic vacuum lines that will break while you're doing it.
