Default Help me with 2 things (pics)

I recently decided to pull my heads after investigating a low compression situation on number 6. It turns out the headgasket blew through on the intake manifold side not a valve like I suspected.
So I am mid headgasket job and I found this little metal ring in the valley after I pulled the right cylinder head. Any idea what it is? If was just laying against a lifter.

Secondly there is a dark spot on the number seven liner right next to the coolant jacket. Should I be worried?

Thanks!

Andy

The ring may well be an insert in the valve cover gasket that keeps you from smashing the gasket when you torque down those 8mm 12 points.

Does low compression mean that you were having a misfire on 6 and code p0306?

Man I'm so paranoid about blowing my h.g. now. Like everytime something goes wrong I'm like god please don't let it be the h.g. lol.

Exactly. 0300 and 0306. A compression test revealed abou 50psi in #6. No coolant loss and good fuel to that cylinder. So I pulled the head and sure enough the gasket was blown right thru on 6.

It's really not that hard to do if your handy. Get the Atlantic British kit - very complete.

That is exactly what mine is 0300 and 0306. I just started a thread last night on it. I'm about to change my plugs and wires cause I have cheap single platinum and really old wires and I was hoping that replacing them with Bosch double plus 4 and magnecor 7mm would fix it. But knowing that you have the exact same codes I may not even waist my $ $350 after shop time and parts.

Was your truck kinda sputtering on take off and misfiring at idle?

It would pull ok but the idle got rough. It was easy to tell something was up. You can swap the #6 plug with another and see if the misfire follows it. Can you run a compression test? That will tell you a lot.
