Default Help with a power steering pump - is this the fourth dead one?

First, a brief tale of three pumps... The spindle shaft on the original pump some how came loose and died in town last May

Replacement pump #1: New aftermarket unit from British Parts of Utah (Made in Brazil) - DOA, crunchy bearings right of the box.
Replacement pump #2: Remanufactured unit from British Parts of Utah - No threads tapped in the pulley flange.
Replacement pump #3: Another new aftermarket unit from British Parts of Utah (Made in Brazil) - Worked fine for a week and then started howling. Still functioned, just super noisy.

And finally the reason for this post - Pump #4. I gave up on pumps from BPU and ordered a new Proline one from Rovers North. It was in an AllMakes box when it arrived, made in the UK. Installed, bled, started driving it around town, and basically the issue is this: It's not noisy (definitely not silent, but few seem to be), works perfectly well at 3+ mph, but it behaves as if there is ZERO power steering assist when basically working around a parking lot or when turning the wheel when not moving. For example, parallel parking is a no-go.

Is this the fourth pump to join the graveyard? Or is there something else I should consider?

I also have a Rovers North power steering pump in my disco. Behaves the same way. I have just gotten used to it. It got a little bit better when I replaced my steering damper. I’ve just accepted it as an arm workout whenever I park. Lol

Do you still have your original? What was wrong with it? These are super simple devices that almost never wear out and when they do it is usually just the front bearing. Your low speed issue is likely due to a lack of pressure at low speeds. Could be the relief valve is bleeding a bit of pressure. Swap in a relief valve from one of the others and see if that does anything.

The original one is that one where the shaft pushed out. Linked above in the first paragraph. Definitely a dead one haha

That first one is definitely repairable, and you could swap the pressure relief valve off of it on to your current pump.

Aye... I threw it away as soon as the first replacement went it. I'll remember that for next time though. Rovers North is sending a new one out next week to replace the current pump. They said there's a pretty big shortage of these things and they're just barely able to keep them in stock. I guess OEM LR ones are completely NLA? Wild.
