Default hey guys new discovery 2 owner here in need of some help

Hey guys just joined and need a little help. I have a 1999 D2 and the lights on my radio and around the ignition key hole won't shut off and its draining the battery. Any ideas? Right now I'm just disconnecting the battery when I shut it off.

Factory radio its locked if that helps. I'm thinking of just getting a new radio installed. Would that fix the issue?

That would be a good start. I would try getting the code and fixing that problem before I put an ugly aftermarket unit in. May fix the problem. If the previous owner ever had to deal with this he may have wrote the code down in the owners manuel. If not, you may have to get a dealers help to get the code.

Its that Anti-Theft stuff. If it ever thinks is being stolen it locks itself up and makes itself worthless to anyone except the real owner. Changing batteries out can trigger this to happen sometimes.

I have the code for the radio but here is the issue. When I turn the disco on the radio turns on says land rover then it says "wait". I press and hold preset 1 but nothing happens. I've held down preset one and pressed some buttons but the screen never changes from saying wait.

Until it is resolved I suggest you also unplug the hood alarm switch. If computer wakes up mad it may decide to immobilize the truck. Many u-pull junkyards sell radios for $15 - $30.

Ok ill do that too. I just hope it isn't a short in the wire somewhere. I might just go after market system in hopes that will clear up this issue.

Actually sounds like an ignition switch issue to me. Seems like the ACC position is being kept on. Have you tried to spray WD40 or similar into the ignition and wiggle it a bit to see if it will go out? Or, maybe the ignition connections themselves are screwy? Just thinking out loud...

You know I never thought of the ignition switch it would make sense since the red light around the ignition is illuminated.
