I have a '99 Disco II. The hood abruptly stopped releasing. I opened it to add windshield fluid and it hasn't opened by release since then. Based on what I have found I think the release needs to be adjusted not the spring. Does anyone know how to do this. (the cable is not seized and I can get it open if I pull up while the lever is being pulled so I think it is just an adjustment on the latch.)

 

No I do not know how to adjust the cable, if you get it figured out let me know as mine does the same thing.
You can get it open by having someone pull the release and you pick up on the hood, then it will stop at the safety latch and then you open as normal from there.
Who knew that opening a hood was a two man job?

 

The cable stretchs, especially when it and the hood release are not lubed. Going to need a new one.

 

mine would barely release since I've owned it and a few weeks ago it stopped completely. The hood release spring has a bolt going through the middle of it. I took the latch out and tighten this bolt thus compressing the spring...also used some wd-40. hood opens perfect now.

 

I lube my hood latch and cable every 6 months along with my door locks and hinges.
I will have to look into the bolt in the spring next time I check the oil.

 

I adjusted that bolt also. I will try get it a try again.
