Default How to decode Engine Serial Number on DII?

The serial number stamped on my 2003 DII's 4.6 V8 engine is: 08D11290A

It's an NAS engine with secondary air but it is the 49 state model (not calif. model) as the car was originally sold in Atlanta.

I'm curious if there's a way to decode when this engine was assembled as I'm in the 03 vin range for the oil pump problem and my engine runs perfect and looks newish (better than most 04s I've been looking at for a friend). Wondering if they slapped a new one in there at some point. There's a hole in the records for the truck from 37-60k. It's got 83k on it now.

FWIW: The markings on the timing cover/oil pump housing read: HE1310148 Hobourn

First, I believe they are all Ca. vehicles, second, the vin does not contain the engine serial number, that will be stamped on the block.

Probably have to get with a dealer on that one....or check the # against someone with an 04 with an early production date.
