Just confirmed this: Regular thread on the fan nut on a 2002 DII 4.0L V8, righty tighty (clockwise), lefty loosy (counter CW) when facing the front of the truck.

 

In case it helps anyone, even though I got the info from other posts on this forum. I bought the Fan Clutch Tool set from Advanced Auto that came with a 36 mm wrench, which size worked perfectly for getting it off. Pretty sure it said it was for a Ford. It was somewhere between $20-$30.

 

The kit from advanced would have worked great for me had the previous owner of this beast not been a total dousche.
