Default How does a D2 determine a misfire?

I keep throwing a #6 misfire code. How does it determine that? Does the piston complain and yell to the ecu? Seriously though..?

Thanks in advance!

It is from the spark, or lack thereof.
When was the last time your truck had a good old fashioned tune up?

Sti wires, NGK plugs, injector orings and fuel treatment done in the last month. The first month of ownership. Going to swap a known good coil pack next and a compression check on all cyls. Just curious on how it makes the call. It's so specific on that cylinder...

Btw, what answers the lack of spark query for the ecu? The coil?
