Default How the heck I get the caps off?

In my attempt to nurse the tires until I figure out what I want, I went to rotate the tires just now and realized the decorative cap puller and the tire iron are not in there. Everything else (chocks, jack tools) are in the bag and the jack is under the hood... but no puller. No biggie, I have a universal I will throw in the back. My issue is I just can't seem to pull those caps off! Before I go crazy on them and wind up scratching the heck out of them or the wheels, I figure I would ask the experts. So how can I make a ghetto cap puller?
BTW...they are the stock 18" Hurricane wheels.

You don't need a puller. They stay on the lugs, just get a 1-1/16 socket and go at it. Just be careful with them if they get bent up there a pain. Hope this helps.

I am not 100% sure what you are talking about but here goes. The stainless steel caps that cover the lug nuts are not to be taken out , they are stamped or crimped on. Trying to remove them will destroy them and scratch the rims. Use a 24mm 6 point socket and be careful and don't go ape **** . The original lug nuts are very expensive as you can imagine. Many people have replaced them with more practical regular steel lug nuts but they just don't look the same.

OK...thanks all. So, what is the puller looking thing shown in the manual for? Also, just to be 100% clear, instead of using a lug wrench, I could use a 24mm or 1 1/16th socket to get everything off in one shot? They all seem "loose" like you could jiggle them a couple mm both ways.

if they come off its not good..the lugs without the caps are a weird inbetween size that metric or standard will not fit exactly right

OK... for future reference the 24mm is too small. The 1 1/16th is the right size but I don't want to mess with it now as it is not the 6 point so I don't want to screw them up if not needed. Also, just to make certain these are the wheels/caps.

I made a mistake it's definitely not a 24mm it is either a 27mm, 28mm, or 1 1/16. You have to try all three to see which one fits each socket best , they are sometimes slightly deformed by previous owners/tire places using a wrong size socket with an impact wrench. If possible, try using a breaker bar instead.

If you mess up the lugs they are not that expensive, go to www.atlantic british.com

Just went and checked my tool box. The socket is 27mm. I bought one right after I bought my first Disco II.
