So I have the whole front end apart for an overhaul and wondering if I should replace these axle seals even though they aren’t leaking. Only have 80k on them.

 

depends...are they 20 yrs old or have been damaged when you took out the axles?

 

and PS: they look to be properly inserted!

 

Well to be honest you would be silly not to having done so much, and you will not be a happy bunny if you dont replace them and they leak!!!!

 

It’s the axle from my 2004, so they’re original, but I damaged. I have these spares on hand, but they look quite different from the OE ones.

 

those look like the right seals. spring faces inside.....mine have a slightly bigger dust seal (which faces outside)....

seal puller? pry out with a screw driver?

Don't scratch the seal seat!

Always pull seals with the pulling device under the 'top' or high position of the seal so that if you do scratch the seal seat, it is at a clock position that is least likely to leak....

I have found that none of the OEM seals are hard to get out. In fact, they have all come out maybe too easily.... Sometimes a touch of hylosil (or appropriate sealant) around the seal 'ring to seat' is needed.....
