If the Fill Plug is starting to look stripped I'd honestly remove the E-Brake Assembly, then pound in the 1/2 extension and break it free. It's not that hard to remove the E-Brake assembly. You just remove the drive shaft, use a manual impact driver to loosen the #3 Phillips Head screw holding the drum into place, pop off the drum, and then inside you'll find 4 15MM bolts securing the assembly to the TC. Once those are loose you can pivot it out of the way and get to the fill plug without any trouble.

Then when you re-install the fill plug don't go crazy tight with it for next time. I have 1 1/2 extension that is slightly shorter than the usual 1/2 extension and it fits perfectly without removing the E-Brake Assembly.

Disco is back in action!

I had to succumb to taking her to a shop to do the transfer case pull and repair, and they also found a overly worn front diff that needed replacing (no more clunks/jerks from my drivetrain).

nothing wrong with that. i work on mine as time and skill allows but never hesitate to let the pro's work on it when i need to.

When do you want to go break it again? Thinking of giving the traverse a go myself

Much appreciated! I am too. I think I'll wait to tackle Tray Mtn. Need some skid plates, larger tires, and more skilled driving before I conquer that. Hah.
